Founded in 1960, the Harrow Hill Trust is the only conservation society covering Harrow on the Hill in its entirety. The fact that it is called a Trust - and is registered as a Charity - means that it endeavours to take a wider view of the local scene than, say, a ratepayers association which, by its very nature, is more concerned with the specific complaints of individual residents. The wider view is based on the assumption that Harrow on the Hill is a rather special place in which to live or to work or to visit - and that most of us would like it to remain that way. This does not make us narrowly preservationist; simply, that we are ever conscious of the Hill's remarkable heritage of old buildings, open space and trees. Over the years our work has involved us in constant attendance at Council and other meetings and in unceasing correspondence and lobbying. The result today is that our views are not merely sought by the decision-makers but are able, in the majority of cases, to exert a positive influence on the outcome. In recent years, too, the Trust has tried to engender a more overt feeling of community on the Hill by holding social events for members and their guests as well as organising such perennial favourites as our Hill Walks and Christmas Carols on the green. In addition, we publish a twice-yearly newsletter and exclusive Hill Trust Christmas Cards. The Trust has more than 1000 members. It is a registered charity dependent on subscriptions fund raising and goodwill. Support for the Trust is VITAL to ensure that our Hill continues to be protected in the 21st century.
