I would like to complain about large plastic banners littering the street furniture on Harrow on the Hill. I took photos last night and forwarded to the Council but since then circus posters have also been attached to the same site at the crossing. I do not think this type of fly posting is appropriate in an area such as the Hill. Yet the Duck Pond Market Company tell me the have permission! What do others think?

What are the plastic banners advertising? Sometimes they refer to an event that is taking place on or near the Hill, in which case I don't think it is a problem. I think the Duck Pond Market should be allowed to advertise on the Hill; they are contributing to the Hill's character and community and need to let people know they exist. I agree that circus posters are not an appropriate advertisement.

Hmmm. A commercial market some 3km away is contributing to the Hill's character and community?

Enterprises can advertise on the Hill, there are lots of shops that will take posters, there are letterboxes that will take handbills and newspapers that will take adverts. Crass commercial plastic banners diminish the local character and environment and upset the community (well at least me).

I too agree, unsolicited commercial advertising on street furniture is unwelcome anywhere, especially on the hill. Perhaps, this website 'harrowhilltrust' should now be formally offered to all advertisers as a preferred advertising medium, or else instead of attracting locals they will simply annoy us. Mario

I notice that both banners have been removed, with the summer school banner now placed on Speech Room railings. Council informs me that "95%" of applications for banner display are rejected.

I don't mind the Summer School or concert banners. I do think that the garden centre manure, etc. banners are still out of hand.
A few residents on the hill aren't pleased with Blues' banner advertising their beer garden or something.
If any one really wants to see an eyesore on the hill, email susan.woolf@zen.co.uk and ask to come over for the best view of the Old Photographic Studio at c. 102 High St., just about at the beginning of London Road.
